The Geiger Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization announces the 2017 Tough Gator Challenge, an obstacle course and mud run for Lewiston-area elementary school children. This rain-or-shine event is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Geiger Elementary School on College Street in Lewiston. Participants will start in waves every 15 minutes throughout the day.
“Tough Mudder” veterans, Mike Courtemanche and Chip Groover wanted to share their love of a muddy challenge with their children at Geiger. That was three years ago. Now in its fourth year, the Tough Gator Challenge draws almost 700 participants from the area. “Every year we try to mix things up a bit. This year 3rd grader Lucy Huggett won our first obstacle design contest,” says Groover. “I love seeing families challenging themselves…and dressing up for the occasion.”
The focus of the event is on being active, using teamwork, getting muddy and having fun! While the course will be designed for elementary-aged participants, parents are welcome and encouraged to register and run alongside their kids. It is not a timed race, but a challenge everyone should be proud of finishing. All youth finishers will receive a t-shirt and the honorary title of “Tough Gator”.
The cost to register is $8 per person before May 27th and $10 per person on the day of the event. The day will include concessions, music and commentary provided by Ernie Gagne, and the ever popular dunk tank! Proceeds will benefit the non-profit Geiger Elementary School PTO, which supports enrichment and community-building opportunities for Geiger students.
“A big thanks to our supporters and volunteers, we cannot do it without you!” says Courtemanche.
